This is a great recipe for an easy to make meal that looks impressive and tastes like you spent all day making!
This recipe starts with the spice mix. The BBQ spice mix is a simple mix of everyday spices that when mixed together, make an outstanding rub for the tofu ribs. See below:
After making the BBQ rib mix, get a block of firm or extra firm tofu and lightly press it for about 10 minutes.
To Press Tofu:
Remove tofu from package and drain liquid.
wrap tofu with a double layer of paper towels and then cover with a kitchen towel.
Place something heavy on top. I usually use my cast iron pan for this purpose.
For the maple drizzle, simply melt vegan butter with the maple syrup and whisk together.
Then, preheat your oven to 400 F and prepare your sliced tofu ribs.
sprinkle a generous amount of the BBQ rub on all sides of the tofu and press lightly with fingers to make sure it sticks.
Next, place in oven and bake for roughly 20 minutes before removing to add the maple drizzle. Simply brush each piece of tofu with the maple drizzly using a pastry brush or something similar. Now return to oven for another 30-40 minutes to so that it can develop a “skin” crust.
After baking for about 30 minutes, check the tofu and if it looks done enough to your liking, remove from oven.
Tofu ribs are best when served immediately. I love to each these tofu ribs on a bed of marinated kale. I also added fresh chopped carrots and cast iron cooked asparagus for extra nutrition.

These tofu ribs are just so beautiful and has the best aroma from all of the spices we used in the rub. I can see these being great served over mashed potatoes, rice, or even as a rib sandwich with either toast or pita!
